Contra-rotating propellers are two propellers with the same axis of rotation and opposite direction of rotation. With this arrangement, the trailing propeller mostly reverses the rotational air flow caused by the leading propeller, resulting in higher efficiency than two separate propellers or a single, larger propeller, especially at low airspeeds.
