The universal requirement of battery-powered devices, including automobile EVs and electric aircraft (EA), is charging or replacing batteries. Speed of charging is critical to usability of EVs and EAs on trips that exceed their battery range.

Speed of charging is a function of the amount of electric power that can be delivered to the batteries. Most charging stations provide AC power to a vehicle’s on-board charger. Some charging stations can provide DC power that goes almost directly to the vehicle’s batteries.
