The Chevy Volt is a range extended electric vehicle (RE-EV).

The Gen 1 (MY 2011 and 2012) Chevy Volt battery has 16.0 kWh energy, 355 V nominal, 45 Ah battery pack made up of a 5.0 kWh section 1, 4.0 kWh section 2, and a 7.0 kWh section 3. The three sections each comprise a combination of 1.0 kWh small modules and 2.0 kWh large modules. The modules are built from LG Chem pouch cells with LMO (LiMn2O4) chemistry.

The Gen 2 (MY 2013 and 2014) Chevy Volt battery has 16.6 kWh energy, 125+ kW peak power, 370 V nominal, 45 Ah battery pack made up of a 5.20 kWh section 1, 4.16 kWh section 2, and a 7.28 kWh section 3. The three sections each comprise a combination of 1.04 kWh small modules and 2.08 kWh large modules. The modules are built from LG Chem 15 Ah pouch cells with LMC (LiNiMnCoO2) chemistry.

The Gen 3 (MY 2015) Chevy Volt battery has 17.1 kWh energy. (No other changes have been publicized.)

The Gen 4 (MY 2016) Chevy Volt battery reportedly will have 18.4 kWh energy as well as fewer, larger cells and a lighter pack. The larger cells will enable the pack to be 96s2p (192 cells) configuration instead of the current 96s3p (288 cells) configuration.
